Diversity Health Service Pty Ltd
Carrie Thomson-Casey MAPS
Private clinical psychology, counselling, naturopathic and nutrition services. Specialising in Nutritional Psychiatry (the rapidly growing field that focuses on the use of food and supplements to provide essential nutrients for the prevention and treatment of mental health issues). Speciality areas also include supporting health professionals and minimising incidence of burnout. Integrating psychology and CAM into client care. Clinical Psychology clients may not necessarily proceed with nutritional psychology intervention – it is the client’s choice.
Based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland.
Carrie consults from her practice at Cotton Tree on the Sunshine Coast. Carrie has worked in private and public health settings since 1994 with work experience including the disability sector, tertiary rehabilitation, sexual assault and violence prevention, and a broad range of client mental health presentations. Carrie works with young people and adults requesting treatment/therapy for anxiety (such as panic attacks, excessive worry, social anxiety, obsessional thinking, separation anxiety), depression, difficulty coping and stress related issues, workplace injury and burnout, weight management, and health and lifestyle changes.
Carrie utilises a range of evidence based therapies, including (but not exclusively) Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Schema Therapy, and integrates these approaches with the health and mental health needs of each client. Clients work with Carrie to set realistic treatment goals and work towards these agreed goals together.
Carrie is also a qualified Naturopath/Nutritionist and applies Nutritional Psychiatry and Functional Medicine principles in working with individuals to improve their mental health and wellbeing, should they request this type of assessment and intervention.
NB: Clients will never be encouraged to cease medication. The practice philosophy is to work integratively and collaboratively with the client’s existing health care professionals.
Clients usually self refer (a mental health care plan is not required), however we will discuss whether this private practice setting is most likely to meet your mental health needs. At initial assessment it is important that consent to consult with a GP around your care is obtained. Clients can self refer without a Mental Health Care Plan (not eligible for a Medicare rebate – check with your private health insurance if you have coverage). Referrals are also received for Worker’s Compensation, other third party referrers/insurers and from organisations referring their employees.
Referral can also be via your GP with a Mental Health Treatment Plan – this plan allows you to claim a rebate for up to ten sessions per calendar year. GPs can fax referrals to 07 5445 5839 or send referrals via Medical Objects (your GP will know what this is).
Naturopathic consults are conducted separately from Medicare rebated sessions.
This practice is not resourced to meet the needs for clients requiring care for acute mental health issues, addiction or gambling, or issues relating to offending.
Private Health Fund Rebates
Private Health Fund Rebates may also apply to clinical psychology and or naturopathy/nutrition consultations.
Fees are currently set at $185 per session.
A rebate of $124.50 is available to individuals on a Mental Health Care Plan. Rebates are claimed immediately using an EFTPOS terminal at the end of the session. In some cases where the referred individual is experiencing significant financial hardship, or their only source of income is a Centrelink benefit, bulk billing may be applied (no cost per session).
At times their may be a wait list and a delay between referral and your initial assessment appointment. You will be advised of any wait periods at your first contact. There is currently no more than two weeks wait for an appointment.
